Jolene, Heidi, Leandra, and Tim teamed up with their church family to raise loose change...enough to need a larger rice bag!
Here's what Sonlighters have been telling us:
Tim and Brenda in Pennsylvania sent a photo of their kids:
Here is a photo of our four children [pictured at right] standing at the front of our small church. We've invited our small congregation to join us in bringing loose change for India. It just so happened that I'd saved a large Basmati rice bag because it had handles and zipped shut. When this project came up, I realized it could serve as a great container for emptying the smaller rice bags into.
Karen in Wisconsin:
We had a wonderful fundraiser with our "Kids With A Mission" club for the rice project. With just 1 1/2 weeks notice, the kids made baked goods, crafts and brought garden produce to sell at our local farmer's market on the one day in October when children are allowed to sell items. We made $114! The kids also put together posters describing the project. They received many comments on how wonderful it was for the children to be involved in this. They received some extra donations too.
Ellie (13), Henry (12), Andrew (11), and Benjamin (8) in Oregon emailed:
We're so excited about this project, and we'd like to tell you about two ways we've used to make money for the rice bag.
We recycled pop cans and bottles and put the money in the bag. And Henry bought a box of doughnuts, then sold them to us. We all enjoyed the doughnuts, and Henry put all his profits into the rice bag.
Keep on collecting with us for the glory of God!
Eight-year-old Devany in California wrote:
I find it richly rewarding to help "Mission India" in their effort to help women and girls to read and write in their native language. I feel like a missionary, just like Ida Scudder, M.D. who established a successful medical community in Vellore, India. I am happy for women like Meenaben to believe in Jesus Christ and now live happier lives in Him. Man and woman were created equal in the eyes of God.
Devany's mom, Marny, adds:
We are a new home schooling family this year, and using Sonlight core 1 for my eight year old and 6 year old. We are grateful to have this experience in reaching out and discovering new cultures and people like Meenaben. Thank you Sonlight team!
