What are you talking about?

Some of you have already shared about the great conversations that this project has started in your families! We want to give you a chance each week to talk with other Sonlighters about your experience and also offer some thought-provoking questions of our own!

You'll want to be sure to check out the new Sonlight forum dedicated to the Rice Bag Project! Hear what other families are talking about...and share your own stories and ideas.

Here's a few of the recent posts:

I very much appreciate the compassion and love that Sonlight is showing to the people in India. When these women become literate, they will be sure to pass this on to their children as well. Many generations will likely be affected for the better by this.

Earlier today, I told my 5 (year old daughter) the basics of this project and that we could help one mommy learn to read. She looked at me, shook her head ever so slightly and held up her hand. I said, "What?" and she said "FIVE mommies, let's do five."

I was just in my kitchen talking with God about this opportunity, asking Him to help me let my 5yo be the leader of this project. He reminded me He was answering my prayers - I posted a month or so ago asking for ideas b/c my 5yo dd wants to be a missionary - and God spoke to me - HERE, she's a missionary NOW.

We watched the DVD tonight and I shared about the project with my children - the two oldest ones, 6 and 5 ... My daughter (newly 5) went for her cherished penny bank. She put about 1/3 of the contents in the bag, closed it up, and then asked, "Are there thousands and thousands of ladies in India?" I said yes. She undid the string and put the rest of her money in there. At one point, she said "That's my money, Mama" and I told her she didn't have to put ALL of her money in there (it's mostly ALL pennies, btw). She didn't take the change out, though. Then she said ... and I LOVE this, because I am teaching both of them to read ...

"All they need to do is sound it out, Mom. Just like this ... "ssssssiiiiiiiitttttt". ROFL! If only it was so easy!
