Here I am, Lord... send me!

India & the 10/40 Window
India is part of the world that is known in missions as the "10/40 Window." It is the rectangular area of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia between 10 degrees north and 40 degrees north latitude.
The majority of the world's non-Christians live in this area of the world. Countries in the 10/40 Window include India, China, Turkey, Pakistan, and the Philippines. The 10/40 Window is also home to most of the world's poor.
Bringing the love of Jesus Christ to this area of the world is an important fulfillment of Christ's two great commands, "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19) and "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39).

Today, India's Christians are taking the responsibility for bringing the Good News of Jesus to their family, friends, neighbors, and nation.
They can do this work more easily than missionaries from other countries, because they already know the languages and they live in the areas that need to be reached. Also, since the 1960s India's government has not allowed missionaries from other countries to come to India and openly evangelize.
Like Isaiah, believers in India are eagerly saying, "Send me!"
They are ready to turn their passion for Jesus into action. The literacy classes you are supporting will be taught by volunteer teachers - believers who want to give both practical and spiritual help to India's poor and needy!
We also know Indian Christians couldn't do the work they are doing today without the courage of missionaries who first brought the Gospel to their nation! It is believed that Christianity may have come to India as early as the first century AD, when the Apostle Thomas is said to have preached the Gospel and was later martyred.
Over the centuries, many brave men and women have obeyed God's call to travel to India and dedicate their lives to telling India's people about Jesus: William Carey, Amy Carmichael, Mother Teresa, Graham Staines, John Hyde, John Scudder, and William Ward.
Take some time to read and talk as a family about these faithful men and women. You'll find many good resources at your library and in your Sonlight Curriculum:
