We are made to serve
Mark 10:45 (NIV)
Today, Meenaben knows that Jesus created her in His image. Jesus did not come to earth in the form of a powerful king who wanted to control everyone and force them to worship Him. Instead, Jesus came as a servant, filled with compassion and love for the hurting and lost - often ministering to people that the religious leaders of the day did not want to help.
Meenaben wants to serve her family and community, just like Jesus. She helps other people who can't read, tells others about Jesus, and is helping women and families make a better life by starting a savings group in her village.
Kids can serve Jesus too!
You are already serving the people of India, as you pray for the families in India and save your pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters! Isn't it amazing to think how Jesus can take those small coins and use them to change the life of Indian women, just like Meenaben?
- John 6:1-15 Jesus uses a young boy's two fish and 5 loaves of bread to feed 5,000
- Luke 21:1-4 A poor woman gives everything she owns
- Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus tells a parable about helping those in need
- Luke 10:25-37 Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan
- John 13:1-17 Jesus washes the disciples' feet
Can you think of some other ways that you could serve Jesus today? This week? This month? Here are some ideas:
- Look for someone who needs a helping hand. Do you have a neighbor who is sick or elderly and can't go to the store? Offer to help run an errand or cook them a meal and bring it to their house.
- Do a family service project. Think of a way that your whole family can make a difference. Spend an afternoon working at a soup kitchen or find a family that needs some small repairs done at their home. Or find an organization in your town that needs some helping hands.
- Visit a retirement home. Many people in retirement homes don't have family that can come visit often. Make some cheerful cards or other craft to brighten their rooms and go for a visit! Bring a favorite book to read outloud to someone.
- Do something nice for someone when they aren't looking. Clean up your younger brother or sister's toys for them. Send a letter to a neighbor or friend who doesn't have family living nearby. Rake your neighbor's leaves or shovel their sidewalk when they aren't home. Take out the trash or set the table for dinner without being asked by your mom and dad.
