'Let the little children come to me...'

Child laborer finds new hope in Children's Bible Club

April 24, 2008

First Ravi's father died. Then his mother got sick.

Ravi had no choice.

This bright 10-year-old boy was forced to drop out of school. He started working at a hotel to support his family.

One day he walked slowly home from his job, tired and aching from hours of backbreaking work.

Then he heard voices singing in the distance. As he got closer, Ravi realized it was boys and girls—his own age. He hid in a corner and watched them sing. He saw their joy and their smiles.

He went back the next day. The Children's Bible Club leader noticed Ravi standing quietly in the corner. He welcomed the young boy and asked his name. Ravi didn't say a word--but he started to cry.

After a while, Ravi shared his troubles with the club leader. The leader prayed for Ravi and invited him to return to the club each night after work.

Each night, Ravi came to the Children's Bible Club. He learned the worship songs—and beamed with pride as his voice joined the other boys and girls.

And the joy Ravi had seen on their faces was now reflecting in his own!

He asked the club leader to come home with him and pray for his mother and share the Gospel.

Praise God—today, Ravi and his mother are both followers of Jesus. His mother recovered from her illness and is back at work. And Ravi is back in school, no longer burdened with providing for his family.
