Eyes fixed on Christ
Blind from childhood, Ajit's hopelessness is lifted by the Gospel's Good News
Ajit declares his commitment to Christ publicly.October 7, 2009
When Ajit was born, his parents were thrilled to have a son. Indian families value sons over daughters, because they are expected to support their parents later in life.
But their joy turned to anger and grief when an eye infection left Ajit blind at the age of five.
Ajit was completely helpless and dependent on his parents - so they didn’t bother sending him to school. He couldn’t work to earn a living. As a young man, his days were filled with the emptiness of drinking and sleeping.
The only wife Ajit’s parents could find was a poor orphaned woman whose first husband had left her - she helped bring income into the family by begging.
Then our Church Planter Nathaniel knocked on Ajit’s door.
Lonely and bored, Ajit welcomed him in for a visit. Nathaniel read to Ajit from the Bible, and prayed for him. Over the next few weeks and months, Nathaniel visited Ajit often.
The truth of the Gospel pierced Ajit’s heart - he knew he was a sinner and that only Jesus could offer him true forgiveness and salvation.
Ajit accepted Jesus as his Savior, and he shared his faith with his wife and parents. Now they are all followers of Jesus and worship in the small church Nathaniel planted in their village.
