Jovita's Prayer

A dying husband and overwhelming debt was driving Jovita to the edge of suicide...

As families in India hear the Good News from Mission India Church Planters, they are experiencing the power of answered prayers for the first time!

They kept asking for more money.

“Don’t give up hope,” the sorcerers said. “Your husband will be healed soon.”

Doctors had told Jovita that her husband had incurable liver damage. The sorcerers were her last resort. She borrowed huge amounts of money to pay them.

But her husband grew worse - he was bedridden for a month. So, she stopped paying the sorcerers.

Soon, angry creditors showed up at her house, demanding money. She couldn’t pay the debt back, so they threatened to take away her home.

“Suicide is the only way to escape my problems,” she thought.

Jovita planned to mix poison in with the food that night so that she and her four children would die.

Looking outside that afternoon, she saw her children laughing and playing with other kids.

Tears rolled down her cheeks. “Neither my children nor I will see the sun rise tomorrow morning,” she thought. It was four o’clock. Her heart pounded faster. Only four more hours until she would die.

Late that afternoon, Jovita was visited by Anup, a Mission India Church Planter. As she listened to Anup share stories about Jesus, Jovita thought, “Perhaps Jesus will perform a miracle in my life.”

Jovita decided to delay suicide. She prayed, “Jesus, if you are the living God, please listen to my prayer and heal my husband. Also free me from this debt. Then, I will accept you as Lord and worship you alone.”

The next morning, Jovita opened her eyes to see her husband sitting in a chair! He had been healed.

Jovita accepted Jesus as her Savior. Miraculously, Jovita found out her debt had been paid.

“We don’t know who paid off our debts, but we believe it was God himself,” Jovita says.

Jovita’s husband is back at work. Every Sunday, Jovita and her family attend church and worship Jesus together!
