A family finds Jesus
Prayers open parents' hearts, introduce young girl to Christ
India's children are discovering the power of praying to Jesus at their Children's Bible Clubs.February 23, 2010
Sunila kicked at the dusty dirt road as her two closest friends chatted excitedly about the stories they heard yesterday afternoon at the Children’s Bible Club.
When Sunila had asked her parents about the Club, they said she couldn't go.
But looking at her friends’ wide smiles, Sunila made a decision.
She was going to attend the Club secretly.
The next day, as she was walking toward the crowd of children at the Club, her father saw her. Angrily shaking a finger in his daughter’s face, he said, “The Bible Club is no place for a Hindu girl!”
Leaning in closer, he warned, “I had better not find you going there again.” He sent Sunila back to the house.
Sunila was bitterly disappointed.
But God was at work in her parents. Keshi, Sunila’s mother, approached members of the local Christian church that sponsored the Club, asking for prayers for her husband. He was tortured by evil spirits and had a dangerous habit of sleepwalking out on the roads at night.
These Christians visited Keshi and her husband regularly every week and prayed for him.
Through their witness, both of Sunila’s parents came to know the Lord! As the evil spirits fled, Sunila’s father stopped sleepwalking.
At long last, Sunila was allowed to attend the Club!
Sunila told her parents the stories she heard each day, and she insisted they pray together as a family. Sunila accepted Christ as her Savior.
Today, Sunila’s little brother attends the Children’s Bible Club with her. Sunila also regularly attends church with her family.
