When John DeVries traveled to India for the very first time, he felt God’s clear call to share the love of Christ with India’s people. Read the story of his journey here.
In the early 1980s, John formed “Bibles for India”—which was later renamed “Mission India.”
- It started with Bible-based Adult Literacy Classes in 1984—meeting the practical and spiritual needs of India’s poor and oppressed illiterate population.
- A year later, Church Planter Training was added.
- In 1990, Children's Bible Clubs were introduced as Mission India’s third ministry.
At the end of 2004, Dr. DeVries decided to step back from day-to-day oversight of the ministry, handing the reins to Mission India's new president, Dave Stravers. Since then, in his role as Founder, Dr. DeVries has continued to focus his efforts on fulfilling his God-given vision for reaching the nation of India.
Today, Mission India continues to fulfill our God-given vision: Making disciples to transform India for Christ. We do this by equipping India’s Christians to share their faith, mentor new disciples, and plant reproducing churches.
